Needs Assessment
The needs assessment was where we thought about what problems we could solve. Using different places (e.g. bedroom, classroom, porch, etc.), we looked for little problems that exist and may be common everywhere. After making a list of problems we could try solving, we picked one out and tried to find a solution. In this situation, I chose to solve the problem of loose outlets and my solution is the Maglet. |
Problem Statement
Electric outlets are the main key to opening the door to energy. It is the energy source for giving power to your electronic device. But, what happens if you have a loose outlet? It will be very difficult to plug your charger/wire in. You will have to adjust it and try forcing and pushing it in, which can cause other problems. It will just fall out and no energy is being transferred from the outlet to the device. This problem has been very common in many homes. As a result, this problem can lead to electrical injuries. Grand Electric Cooperative Inc. states that each year, approximately 1,000 residents in the United States die as a result of electric shock. An additional 5,000 individuals seek emergency treatment for electric shocks. Approximately 20% of all electrical injuries occur in children with the highest incidence occurring in toddlers and adolescents.
To solve this predicament, I have made an invention. The invention is a magnetic outlet where you can just stick your magnetic plug onto the outlet. It would only take a second to plug in your cords and the energy will quickly transfer from the outlet into your electronic device. The pricing should be based well on quality, but it will be reasonable. Also, this magnetic outlet would be very efficient and helpful. This product would have the need to and hit the markets everywhere because of its high quality technology and its usefulness. Users would get energy right away and won't have any problems, like loose outlets or electrical injuries. It will be problem-free and will last a lifetime to help people with charging devices anywhere and anytime.

Crowdsourcing: Survey and Feedback
After doing a survey on four people, I got some advice for my invention. On a scale from 1 to 10, the name for my invention was rated at least a 4. From this I can see that the name “The Maglet” is suitable for my invention. The cost of the Maglet was rated 3 and 4. It was considered a 50/50 choice. The price was not too expensive nor too cheap. It was pretty moderate, but I feel that I might reduce it a little to make the price more reasonable and suitable for customers. The slogan for my invention is “Don’t plug. Just connect.” Ratings on my slogan were pretty good, between a 4 and a 5 so I’ll be sure to use that slogan. The use of the Maglet was not that necessary, but it could maybe make things easier and more efficient. One comment stated that he liked how the Maglet allowed more cords to provide energy for more devices and electronics.
